Commercial Projects

Although the majority of my projects have been residential, I’ve designed a number of commercial projects for select clients over the years. Aside from typical office “Tenant fitout” work in existing office spaces, these projects include “810 House” the world headquarters for the Forefront Corporation of Fair Haven, NJ as well as working with various landlords and business owners to help them meet the challenges of the applicable laws, codes and ordinances as they look to start or grow their businesses.

On many of these projects my work is not photographable, it is interpreting the codes and ordinances assisting my clients in making their visions a reality.

Two Rivers Animal Hospital, Fair Haven, NJ

I worked closely with the owners of this practice to fit a small,  modern full- service animal hospital in the office space of a long practicing medical doctor.

We worked with Civil Engineer Elizabeth Waterbury PE to create an up to date, fully accessible path through the site at the edge of a residential neighborhood.

This building was a classic 1970’s modern two-story office building with a medical office on the first floor and general office space on the second.

The project entailed updating the building and creating workable layouts for the occupants. The occupant on the first floor was a busy general medical practice already in place on half of the floor. The second floor occupant was a physical therapy / rehabilitation practice, new to the building.

Some of the elements of the project were locating an elevator in the lobby to service the new medical offices on the second floor as well as updating the lobby, replacing windows and adding insulation and new siding and roofing.

We worked closely with the occupants to get the layouts right for needs of their unique practices. A real challenge on this was the scheduling and phasing of the construction so the first floor offices could remain open as long as possible, closing for a short time at the end of the project. 

FOREFRONT Inc.
810 River Road
Fair Haven, NJ

Alterations and addition to two existing structures dating from the 19th century in the historic district of Fair Haven. 

The project includes, renovations, alterations, relocation and reconstruction for various parts of the two existing buildings as well as an approximate 6,000 sq. ft. addition tying both structures together. The addition includes both traditional and modern elements meant to balance between the rich history of the Borough of Fair Haven and the future as well as the 21st century nature of a company that deals with cloud based solutions on a global scale.

The next level of collaboration was this team working with the Borough’s Historic Preservation Commission over several meetings to create a building and site design that the commission would endorse to the planning board.

This project has been a real collaboration on several levels; first among the design team which consists of the owner and his team of people at Forefront (the people who’ll be occupying the space), the project engineer and planner Elizabeth M. Waterbury PE, PP, of Cranmer Engineering, Shrewsbury, the project attorney Brooks Von Arx, Esq., Fair Haven, and myself. As a team, we worked to navigate the various requirements, ordinances and codes while keeping the client’s goals and vision in mind.
